(Mis)translation as a Literary Success

Summary/Abstract: The paper is devoted to analysis of what could be called both a mistranslation and a literary success, and aims at shedding more light on the ambiguous issues in question. Main examples come from Polish literature in the English-speaking world, namely, Auden’s version of Mickiewicz’s “Romantyczność” and Bassnett and Kuhiwczak’s rendition of Szymborska’s “Dzieci epoki.”
