Summary/Abstract: The paper gives an overview of the preparatory works of the electronic version of the Dictionary of the Lithuanian Language (further referred to as LKŽe, Lithuanian acronym). It was made accessible to the users at the website www.lkz.lt in 2005. The original version of the Dictionary consists of 20 volumes published between 1941 and 2002. The LKŽe has been prepared by specialists of the Lithuanian Language Institute in two and a half years on the basis of the previously accomplished preparatory works of technical character. When preparing the LKŽe, the original texts of the book were edited, adapted and amended. The specialists working on it took efforts to make it more modern and user-friendly; also, which is no less important, to amend all previous errors, misprints and remove other shortcomings. The mendments included unification of spelling and punctuation variants having resulted through numerous though not always consistent reforms, presentation of idioms, accentuation patterns, dialectal forms, scientific matters concerned with archaic lexicon, presentation of new realias etc. Also evaluation of some entry words has been changed in terms of their acceptability in contemporary language. References to variants and wordings of meaning definitions have also been amended, since some of them are now treated as deviating from the language norms.
