Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the existing system of crimes against sport in Bulgaria. These crimes are regulated in Chapter 8 „a“ of the Criminal Code. The offences of active and passive bribery, as well as sports fraud are compared with crimes, regulated in the legislation of various countries from the European Union and outside of it. The second part of the article presents an analysis of the jurisprudence of criminal courts in several EU member states in cases related to sports crimes. The detailed research of the characteristics of the legal systems in five of the EU member states concludes with their separation into three different groups. The used criterion is based on the method of regulation of crimes against sport in each of these countries. The conclusion presents a perspective for the future development of Bulgarian legislation in matters related to sports crimes. The article provides several guidelines for improving the effectiveness of the existing system of sports-related crimes in Bulgaria.
