Summary/Abstract: Teenage suicide continues to be a serious issue both worldwide and in Romania and, therefore, it deserves to be studied by educators, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and sociologists. A close study of literature in the field of adolescent/ teen suicide over the last fifty years shows that it has been studied in a relatively small number of countries, and that American researchers prevail. Research was conducted on samples of different age ranges depending on the meaning of the term “adolescent” and on the type of approach. The review of literature shows there is a specific vocabulary of “suicide” and there are individual preferences in the use of the different synonyms. Three types of causes/ factors/ stressors/ triggers for adolescent suicide are illustrated with examples from literature: biological, environmental, and psychological. The lack of studies regarding teenage suicide in Romania should be a starting point in researching this phenomenon both quantitatively and qualitatively.
