Summary/Abstract: Modern migration processes and their consequences have rightly established themselves as one of the central fields of current policy in the European Union (EU). For centuries, Europe itself has been a continent of emigrants, with the inhabitants of European countries colonizing vast areas of the world in search of wealth, freedom and peace. Today, the trend is reversed: in the age of globalization, the Old Continent has become the ultimate goal of hitherto unknown, in scale and intensity, migration processes.
