Summary/Abstract: The aim of the author of the paper was to compare Polish aphorisms written by Stanisław Jerzy Lec with their translations into German by Karl Dedecius. The majority of them were translated very accurately when compared to the Polish original. Analysed were mainly the language items used in the process of translation and the parts of the translation that have been modified. The author has also attempted to find the reasons for these modifications.
