Summary/Abstract: The article is of a theoretical and empirical nature. Its aim was to show the role of education in the social re-adaptation of prisoners both from the legal regulations presented in the subject literature as well as the results of own research carried out among convicts leaving penitentiary units. The analysis of research results was focused in particular on issues related to the type of educational activity undertaken by convicts, assessment of the received vocational training, proposal of changes in the educational offer as well as on the establishment of a criminological and social forecast being a very important premise of social readaptation of prisoners.
