Summary/Abstract: People devote a significant amount of time to performance at work. This amount changes over the course of their lives. The paper focuses on the opinions of men and women of Slovak households on the amount of time they spend by performing selected types of work at different stages of the life cycle. Attention is focused on time devoted to paid work, childcare, cooking, which represent routine housework activities, and minor repairs and maintenance that are considered to be non-routine housework activities. In each examined category, there are significant gender differences in the opinions. In terms of changing the amount of time devoted to selected types of work, the smallest number of respondents, both men and women want to reduce the amount of time devoted to childcare. On the other hand, more than half of the men surveyed would like to reduce the amount of time devoted to paid work, especially in the stages with small children.
