Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is “The Book of Lithuanian Folk Songs”. Analysis covers the seventeen volumes that appeared during 25 years of its publication. The author of the article discusses the altering attitude of scholars editing separate volumes towards the “Index of Lithuanian Folk Songs”. Upon analyzing the introductions to the separate volumes of “The Book of Lithuanian Folk Songs”, a certain model introduction to which the authors adhere, was revealed. The author of the article demonstrates how contents of the individual introductions depend on the genre peculiarities of the published songs, the situation with the song publicizing and investigation, and the scholarly individuality of the authors. As the most significant change in the history of “The Book of Lithuanian Folk Songs”, publication of the stylistically new-fashioned folk songs is named.
