The development strategy of Europe to 2020

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present basic information about the Europe 2020 strategy as well as about its statistical aspects. Europe 2020 is a new strategy for the EU which aim is to turn the EU into a smart, knowledge based, green economy providing high levels of employment, productivity and social cohesion. It is a successor to the Lisbon Strategy, which has been the reform strategy for the EU during the last decade. The new strategy needs statistical support from the EU-Member States. Ensuring the quality, reliability and timeliness of statistical data provided by national statistical offices will be of great importance for the credible and effective strategy monitoring.
