Summary/Abstract: After the Second World War was over, back in 1945, France and Germany have begun to strengthen their relations, proving that two states that were in a war yesterday can today cooperate to create a solid, sustainable economy over the time. Therefore, on May 9, 1950, a sui generis entity with a different constitutional status, namely the European Union, was born. The idea of building the European Community belonged to the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Schuman, who was assisted by Jean Monnet, a great supporter of the collaboration between the states located on the European territory. Accordingly, the states on the continent began to join these two states. Gradually, more and more states considered joining the European Union as a wish, including Romania, who officially became a Member State of the European Union on January 1st, 2007, after a long negotiation process with the European Union. The accession moment to the European Union is considered to be for Romania the second biggest achievement, after the Great Union since December 1st, 1918. Today, Romania is a full member state, a state in which the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law are guaranteed. It was an important and difficult change for Romania, which in 1989 made the transition from a totalitarian political regime to a constitutional democracy, in which human rights and freedoms are now respected. The accession to the European Union has contributed to the evolution of the Republic from all points of view, from the creation of a market economy, based on private property, governed by the laws of the market, to a strong and stable legal system, respectively a just justice.
