Summary/Abstract: Looking for the most effective solutions for contemporary education and upbringing it is worthwhile looking closer at a reflexion undertaken by the Swiss pedagogue Arthur Bruhlmeier in his book entitled 'Humanistic Education'. He asks the following question: can being a pedagogue become a way of fulfiling one's own humanity? How to be a teacher and a tutor so as not to be in conflict with one's own nature, social expectations and personal morality? Based on these and similar questions, as well as on opinions formed much earlier by J. H. Pestalozzi, he creates his own concept of pedagogics described as exceptionally optimistic, namely the pedagogics of love, pedagogics of the heart, pedagogics of the spirit. The author of this model of upbringing assumes that in order to help the students develop the power of their own hearts and their spirituality one needs to have a heart and the spiritual sphere of his own. Therefore, in the context of the reflection on the forming of the personal identity of students in contemporary schools and on love as the ultimate cause for upbringing it is worthwhile looking closer at the spiritual pedagogics of love proposed by the Swiss pedagogue.
