Summary/Abstract: Heinrich Schenker’s Theory of Harmony (1906) ‘is unlike any other music treatises of the period or, for that matter, any other period.’ Robert Wason and Matthew Brown have pursued the evolution of Schenker’s musical thought throughout their careers, culminating in Heinrich Schenker’s Conception of Harmony. A thorough investigation of the theorist’s constellation of theoretical essays, both published and unpublished, yields a fully formed exegesis that grasps the significance of Schenker’s unique contribution to musical art.
