Summary/Abstract: In the article, the author analyses the role of technical exercises used in his pedagogical activity by Vitaly Sechkin, remarkable pianist and professor, Honoured Artist of Ukraine. He paid particular attention to the development of the technical skills of his students, for which he used various exercises and virtuoso etudes. A detailed characteristic is made of the particularities of C.-L. Hanon’s and J. Brahms’s sets of exercises, which pursue similar objectives - the development of finger speed, the freedom to execute different kinds of texture, assimilation of tonalities. The professor’s favourite exercises and his methodical recommendations are mentioned as well.
