Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the hereby article is not to provide a detailed analysis on the existence of the North Atlantic Alliance since its „youth” days until now, but aims to observe the similarities of the approach between NATO – the one that was established to manage the threat posed by the Soviet Union (USSR) in relation to Western democracies, and NATO – the present one. We will be able to conclude, after a review of the main Allied measures during the Cold War, compared to those adopted after the illegal annexation by the Russian Federation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014, that the North Atlantic Alliance returns to its roots after 70 years. The paper also aims to reveal if, over time, this particular political-military alliance has adapted to the strategic security context. Finally, we shall try to issue an opinion on the future of NATO, in a constantly changing security environment.
