Summary/Abstract: Reference Points in Establishing the Places and Roles of the Laity within Church in the Theology of the Apostolic Fathers. In the writings of the Apostolic Fathers the places and roles of the clergy and laity in the ecclesial body are well established. All the members of the Church, belonging either to clergy or to laity, fulfill specific duties and the relations among them have a symphonic character. Life in the contemporary society involves a commitment from the part of the laity, as well. The current situation requires them to perform a wider and more intensive apostolate. The progress of science and technology, the complex relations among people have not only extended the field of the apostolate of the laity, but they have raised new issues that, when solved in a Christian spirit, require a special effort made by all Christians.
