Summary/Abstract: Starting with the Apostolic Fathers and the Apologists, we notice a constant and permanent evolution in the expression of Christian teaching on virtues and Christian perfection through the practice of virtues. Saint Basil the Great is obviously a reference point in this regard. That is why this study particularly focused upon the manner in which he sees the role of virtues in people’s life. But Saint Gregory of Nyssa is the one who gives a remarkable expression, unparalleled by other patristic authors, to the teachings of our Church on the Christian perfection attained through the practice of virtues.
