Summary/Abstract: In order to make Christians live in fraternal relationships consistent with their faith, St. John the Golden Mouth presents and develops numerous pertinent arguments aimed at reviving their evangelical beliefs. The demands arising from belonging to the same human nature are added to more evangelical reasons: the concern to resemble the Father or the Son, the discovery of the Lord Himself in the person of our brethren, the practice of merciful brotherly love to please us before God. Although fully developed, these reasons are followed by two others, which seem to constitute true pastoral arguments to which he resorts with predilection, that is, the theme of hell and the promise of future goods. We will focus on the attitude and understanding of St. John the Golden Mouth towards the realities of this world and on the place that eshatology occupies in his work.
