Summary/Abstract: Language constitutes the basic element of national identity and an instrument of every culture’s manifestation which requires protection through an appropriate legal framework and concrete activities and measures, language policies and planning agreements. Every group identity needs a wise language policy especially in multilingual environments such as bilingualism and diglosia which are phenomena prevalent in all but a few communities. The Arab language zone is facing phenomena which require a wise language policy and planning. This article shows how much care and space is given to language policies and planning in Arab states and how often those policies are honoured and applied.
