Summary/Abstract: On the background of the Red Army’s penetration into the Romanian territory, starting with the year 1944, the process of Sovietization begun. Once with the obtaining of illegitimate political power in March 1945, the Romanian communists have perceived the army as a redoubtable rival, attached to the royalty tradition, which first had to be demolished and after wards transformed into a loyal organism of the new power. The demolition of the traditional military structures by the Petru Groza govern was obtained through aggressive means, thousand of military cadres, who have achieved experience and obtained heroism laurels on the battle field, were removed from the army,being subjected to a series of summary trials and unjustly convicted, under accusations such as „reactionary elements” or „enemies of the people”. The article captures the massive process after which the Romanian Royal Army’s institution was purged by her most valuable officers and reflects its transformation into the most loyal instrument handy to the communist power. The action was prepared and launched before the ending of the Second World Conflagration by applying a legislative frame by the Communist Justice Minster, Lucrețiu Pătrășcanu (in September 1944). On the 29th of January 1945, the so called National Democratic Front governing program, was publicly made known,which, among others, mentioned also the desire of reorganizing the army in a democratic spirit, by eliminating the reactionary and Fascist elements. If in May1945 the military personnel of the Romanian army numbered 418.912 military, by December 1947 the number was reduced to 135.580 military.
