Summary/Abstract: In the life of every Muslim intellectual the knowledge of the Arabic language appears as a need and also turns into love. If you take a quick peek in to the biographies of famous people from the history of Islam and Islamic thought, whether they are Arabs or non-Arabs, it is easy to notice that the lifelong interest in learning Arabic language, its literature and its rich linguistic heritage were an integral part of their intellectual growth. Our insight into any of the various biographies of this prominent poet, philosopher, modern Muslim thinker, reformer who urged Muslims to renew their tradition in the light of new achievements in all fields of knowledge, the spiritual creator of Pakistan, Muhammad Iqbal (1877–1938), written by his contemporaries or fellow historians from different parts of the Islamic and non-Islamic world, provides assurance that he, during his fertile intellectual life, demonstrated keen interest in the Arabic language and regularly read the Qur’an. In the Qur’an he was seeking a solution for all the problems of the individual and the Islamic Ummah. The Quran was his inexhaustible inspiration in poetic and intellectual reflections. The path of life, fascinating results, as well as the reputation which Muhammad Iqbal enjoyed throughout the East and the West, convey a clear message that the life of Muslim scholars is impossible without direct use of sources like the Noble Qur’an, the Prophet’s traditions and Arabic poetry, that i.e. is without an immediate immersion in the basic Islamic disciplines.
