THE IMPACT OF MODERN CONCEPT OF RELIGION ON RELIGIOUS LIFE OF BOSNIAN MUSLIMS AND ACTIVITY OF ISLAMIC COMMUNITY IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY

Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes modern understanding of religion as a relevant ideological structure which seeks to define different traditions of beliefs. Precisely, this ideological perception of belief in modernity offers a number of challenges for all believers, especially for Muslims. As the oldest religious and administrative institutions of the Bosnian Muslims, the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina affects different specific understandings of the faith. Stressing the principles of ideological interpretation of the beliefs expressed by various ways of religious forms, and then comparing them with new forms of interpretation of Islam, this paper presents several examples of such interpretations of tradition which are evidently present among contemporary Bosnian Muslim intellectuals.
