Summary/Abstract: This paper shows that Ibn Khaldun in his famous al-Muqaddima used verses from the Qur'an to justify his views on human society, nature, rise and decline of civilizations, etc. Ibn Khaldun cites Qur'anic parts in a non-traditional way, he gives the verses "his meanings", and it may be said that his al-Muqaddima represents a special and interesting rationalist commentary on the Qur'an.
