Summary/Abstract: In order for people to convey their feelings and thoughts completely, they need to benefit from the vocabulary of the language. From an early age, children are expected to refer to publications that reflect the richness of our language and include vocabulary. The fact that children have a rich vocabulary will contribute to the development of the language as well as the enrichment. The aim of this research is, in Ağrı and Bingöl provinces; to examine the free reading texts in Turkish textbooks that taught at the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade levels of secondary school in terms of the presence and frequency of idioms. The research was carried out according to document analysis, one of the qualitative data collection methods. The findings identified in the free reading texts were presented in tables and the findings were interpreted. Based on the findings, it was observed that free reading texts in Turkish textbooks aren’t rich in the presence of idioms.
