The issue of the request for the autocephalous church in Montenegro

Summary/Abstract: The request for an independent church in Montenegro is primarily politically motivated. The regime and parties with similar political programme believe that the Montenegrin nation and state can not survive without the autocephalous church and will not consider Montenegro truly independent until the project is completed. On the other hand, the Serbian parties and the Serbian people in Montenegro consider the protection of the Serbian Orthodox Church, therefore the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral of utmost importance for the survival of their identity.
