Summary/Abstract: Hypoxia is a lack of oxygen in the arterial blood and tissues, activating a variety of physiological functions and systems that seek to reduce this deficiency and provide the body with enough oxygen. one of the reactions to hypoxia is an increased synthesis of the hormone erythropoietin, which stimulates erythropoiesis in the bone marrow and this increases the absolute number of red blood cells - oxygen carriers. These changes affect the maximum consumption and transport of oxygen needed to develop physical performance. The result is a legal possibility of positive doping in sports activities.
