Summary/Abstract: In the context of the current “boom” of the contemporary chronicle in Latin America, the present article focuses on analyzing two key elements of the genre, the presence of the authorial voice and the representation of the other, in Alta rotación. El trabajo precario de los jóvenes (2009) by Laura Meradi. Firstly, the paper introduces a brief presentation of the characteristic narrative strategies and techniques of the urban chronicle. Secondly, it analyzes the relationship between the author’s self-representation and that of other characters, which constitute the backbone of the chronicle genre. Furthermore, the narrator’s transformation (largely influenced by the application of gonzo journalism strategies) is studied. In addition, the article explores how the aforementioned transformation infl uences the main theme of Alta rotación, which is the world of precarious labor market in contemporary Buenos Aires.
