Summary/Abstract: This article makes a case for a stronger political European commitment towards the accession of the remaining countries to the EU en bloc. Furthermore, the EU should provide all Balkans aspirants with a road map for their accession, specifying dates and frameworks. This would at least send out an encouraging signal. At the same time, however, the focus should be maintained on common fundamental issues, such as regional co-operation (measures which, in effect, could produce positive effects for promoting reconciliation) and on combating organised crime and corruption. We have to discuss these issues in the context of reform efforts in the region.
