Summary/Abstract: When compiling generic terms and terms related to onomastic theory and methodology along with their definitions, as well as to terminological system and hyperonymic-hyponymic relations, problems of different nature arise. This study briefly describes the goals and principles of the project of the Slovak Onomastic Commission at the Ľudovít Štúr Institute of Linguistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. We define the basic Slovak onomastic terms onymum (= onym), onymia (= onymy), onomastika (= onomastics) and onomastikon (= onomasticon), which are used for forming other tems, and we discuss their use in Slovak onomastics. The author points out variant use of the part -onymum/-onym in some terms and criticizes inaccurate or incorrect explanations of some terms in Slovak dictionaries and in Encyklopédia jazykovedy (Encyclopedia of Linguistics) (1993).
