THE DEFENSE SYSTEM OF THE CITY OF BARGALA

Summary/Abstract: Bargala from Roman camp in the 4th century grows into civitas and its largest development experiencing in the 5th and 6th century. In this period became a strong military, economic and spiritual center and also a major station on diagonal road Heraclea - Serdica. From III century begins restless period which reflected the safety of the cities. Because of that, with the aim to ensure the safety of people and material goods by which dispose the city of Bargala was built fortification accompanied by additional defense elements. All together they form the defense system of the city that provided good protection from enemy attacks.
