Summary/Abstract: The pre-modern Romanian literature had a strong programmatic and didactic character. Often at the limit of the literary genre, the historic writings of the time focused on the promotion of certain ideas within large masses of readers. Regarded as historian and linguist, Damaschin Bojincă published most of his writings in one of the first Romanian periodicals, Bibliotecă românească, printed at Buda under the suprvision of Zaharia Carcalechi. The topics that Bojincă dealt with were mainly historic, most of these texts being in fact translations and adaptations, the main source of inspiration being an extensive chronicle written by the Austrian historian Johann Christian von Engel. Starting from these aspects, this article intends to make a brief presentation of the literary activity of Damaschin Bojincă, emphasis being placed on the way in which Bojincă’s writings correspond to the programmatic ideals of the Transylvanian School.
