Summary/Abstract: The article traces the history of Beijing. The first records of a city that existed on the territory of contemporary Beijing date back to the Zhou Dynasty. This city was built around 1045 BC and was under the rule of many different dynasties – some Chinese, some foreign. Throughout history the city was built and destroyed many times. More than 20 names are known to have been given to the city, but only some are mentioned in this study. The article follows the historical data about the city from the Zhou Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
