Summary/Abstract: This article aims to analyze how the voices in books transcend the written word to become a hermeneutical mechanism to see and understand the world. To this purpose, the study addresses the relationship between word and image in light of the interaction of their verbal signs (the books) and visual signs (the war posters). The article focuses on the Civil War in 2.000 posters –a book commented on by two characters (Jack Deza and Peter Wheeler)– in order to verify the presence of a double semiotic coding in Javier Marías's work by showing the war posters and writing about them. The article concludes that the war posters are used as an icony strategy to reflect and show the reason for the careless talk. In summary, the research of the verbal and visual practices of the writer reveals a double discursive configuration of the war and examines the relationships between both strategies to which specialized critics have not yet devoted a detailed reflection.
