Summary/Abstract: Drawing up last wills and testaments was a usual practice for the eighteencentury Wallachian socio-political elite, even to the point that a standardized pattern for this kind of judicial documents was elaborated by the archbishop Antim Ivireanu. The present study aims to analyse two such documents, dating from 1733 and 1751. These last wills and testaments were drawn up by Gheorghe Cantacuzène, the son of the former Wallachian lord, Şerban Cantacuzène, and by his wife, Ruxandra. They are edited for the first time in the appendix of this study, together with another judicial document, from 1741, which recognizes the rights of this family branch to Şerban Cantacuzène’s inheritance. Starting from these documents, the first part of the article sketches the biographies of these two, less known, members of the Cantacuzène family. The second part of the study scrutinizes their last wills and testaments from a historical anthropological point of view. Thus, the inventory of the material possessions entrusted to their descendants and the listing of the spiritual provisions required from them reveals a complex web of links, connecting the public sphere with the private one and the earthly world with the eternal one.
