Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the current crisis in the ruling Christian-Democratic Party of Germany caused by the corruption cases and mismanagement of the response to the Covid-19 epidemic. It provides an overview of the systemic failure of the German model of federation in the face of a major, long-lasting crisis; provides a short overview of the most pertaining corruption scandals; details the ideological currents in the CDU and the ascendant challenger the Green Party.
