Summary/Abstract: Tourist guide and work permit (license) in the tourism sector are two important concepts that legally pave the way for performing a profession when existing together, or one does not make sense in the absence of the other. It was wondered how tourist guidance students perceive the “tourist guide” and “work permit (license)”, how they transform these concepts into a picture in their minds, and from which sources the pictures in their minds are fed; thus, these issues were examined within the scope of the study. The population of the research includes students studying at Programme of Tourism Guidance, Marmaris Tourism Vocational School, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University. The perceptions of tourist guidance students on “tourist guide” and “work permit (license)” were tried to be explored by metaphor analysis. The questionnaire consists of 2 parts. In the first part, there are 3 questions regarding demographic characteristics (gender, age, grade), while the second part covers the questions that students were asked to complete the statements such as “A Tourist Guide for me is like..................................... Because……………………………” and “A Work Permit (License) for me is like....................................... . Because ……………….……...……”. Participants developed “76” metaphors about the “tourist guide”. The sources of the metaphors the students produced about the “tourist guide” showed a distribution under the following “7” categories: “agency perception”, “consultancy perception”, “leadership perception”, “promotion perception”, “representation perception”, “guidance perception”, and “execution perception”. Participants, on the other hand, developed “79” metaphors regarding the “work permit (license)”. The metaphors produced regarding the “work permit (license)” were divided into “10” categories, while “professional obligation perception” (n=15), “existence perception” (n=13), and “adding value perception” (n=10) were the categories in which the most metaphors were produced, respectively.
