Summary/Abstract: This article aims to bring to attention the issue of legal consecration of the financing of political parties and election campaigns, by conducting an analysis that combines the theoretical perspective with the practical one. It is briefly presented the normative framework that regulates the organization and functioning of political parties and in detail the framework regarding the financing of political parties and electoral campaigns. The amendments to Law no. 334/2006 on financing the activity of political parties and electoral campaigns are captured - following the recommendations of GRECO (Group of Anticorruption States of the Council of Europe) and the two modes of financing (public and private) enshrined in law are analyzed. The control of financing the political parties and electoral campaigns it is also presented with reference to the jurisprudence of the C.E.D.O. (ECHR = European Court of Human Rights) The mission of the Permanent Electoral Authority is highlighted - to ensure the organization and conduct of elections and referendums in Romania, as well as the financing of political parties and electoral campaigns, in compliance with the Constitution, law and international and European standards, and its role in increasing the transparency of political party funding and election campaigns. At the same time, the need to “reform” the political class is highlighted, following the appreciation that the existence of a coherent legislative framework in the field of financing political parties and electoral campaigns is a necessary condition, but not sufficient for the integrity of political and electoral competition.
