Summary/Abstract: The State Court, a special tribunal set up by the Communist Party for “political crimes”, sentenced 27 thousand people from October 1948 to December 1952. Josef Chalupa, a young man from a very poor family, faced it twice. Disappointed with the communist government, he joined the third resistance movement and then teetered on the brink of death.
