Summary/Abstract: Many names that are quite well known come up in connection with the Communist regime. Among them is that of Břetislav Jeníček, a Gestapo informer whom we associate above all with his “struggle against reaction” at the Nikolaj camp and at the Jáchymov uranium mines. While the history of Nikolaj has been partly explored, the story of one of the main initiators of those events, which Břetislav Jeníček was, has not. His life reflects not just the tragic history that Czechoslovak society had to endure but also the absurdity of the Communist regime.
