Structural changes in the largest Polish companies, 2004-2009

Summary/Abstract: On the basis of a revised and supplemented list of 2000 largest Polish companies for the years 2004-2009, published by the Rzeczpospolita daily, the authors examined the structural changes of this important group of companies. Three economic characteristics have been used: revenues, employment and net income, as well as characteristics of ownership (including the origin of the dominating capital, determined as “domestic” or “foreign”), sector and geographical location (headquarters). The article contains a brief methodological introduction, tables with results of calculations and conclusions indicating major structural transformations that have taken place in the Polish economy over the last 5 years.
