Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The article is primarily aimed at a theoretical reflection on the issue of education towards interculturality which is currently a part of a widely developed trend in educational thought and practice. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem of this study has the form of the following question: what role can nowadays be attributed to a family in terms of education towards interculturality? The research method was the selective analysis of scientific literature in the field of family pedagogy and intercultural education. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The article identifies the sources of the necessity of education towards interculturality, subsequently it presents the basic notions, such as multiculturality and interculturality. They are followed by the reflection on a family as a fundamental educational environment where the process of the shaping of human’s attitudes takes place. The attention is drawn to the family contexts and areas of education towards interculturality. RESEARCH RESULTS: Family as a primary environment of human existence has an educational potential which is impossible to overestimate. Due to the shaping of prosocial attitudes, transmission of moral values, building openness to diversity, inculcating the principles of properly understood tolerance, family has an opportunity to become an environment for the development of a human who will strive for participation in both universal and national culture. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The carried out analysis primarily allows for emphasising that cultural diversity of societies sets new goals and tasks for education. They also regard family education since thanks to educational processes taking place in a family the religious, national and regional identity of a human is shaped. A basic recommendation is the postulate for the family assistance in terms of fulfilling its attributed functions and tasks.
