Summary/Abstract: The article presents the civil non-Jewish cemeteries of Lower Silesia (the poviat of Oleśnica) and Central Bohemia (the poviat of Nymburk) as specific parts of historical regions. The article analyses the period from the Enlightenment reforms of the end of the 18th century up to the present day. The field studies were focused on the analysis of the preserved urban, architectural and historical values of cemeteries. Subsequently, the analysis of written, cartographic and iconographic sources, predominantly from the 19th and 20th centuries, was carried out, on the basis of which model locations could be compared. In the case of the poviat of Oleśnica, attention was focused on the aspect of transformation that the cemeteries underwent after the displacement of the German population in 1945. In the case of the poviat of Nymburk, the phenomenon of the secularization of the cemeteries in the 20th century was observed. Drawing on the knowledge thus attained, it can be stated that Lower Silesian cemeteries present themselves as particular historical spaces and dynamic places of collective memory in a given religious environment. They stand in stark contrast to Central Bohemian cemeteries, which are becoming conservative – tinged with melancholy – places of family memory.
