Factors influencing nursing care for the elderly in the terminal

Summary/Abstract: Objectives: The aim of our research was to identify motivating and motivating factors and attitudes of nurses to perform nursing care for patients in the terminal stage of the disease. Material and methodology: The sample of respondents to our survey consisted of 68 (out of 80 contacted) nurses performing nursing care for the elderly in the terminal stage of the disease. The sample included nurses working in internal departments, oncology departments, oaiM, longterm care hospitals, geriatric departments, surgical departments, neurological departments, pneumology departments and intensive care units in the Bratislava region in the period 1.07.2020 - 1.09.2020 We conducted the survey itself. of its own design, which was intended for nurses providing nursing care to seniors in the terminal stage of the disease. Results: Based on the analysis of the answers of the addressed nurses, we found that the nurses are most motivated to perform their profession by the feeling of personal fulfillment from work and help to terminally ill patients. The strongest demotivating factor for nurses is the low staffing of the ward and the lack of time per patient. However, according to our survey, the majority of nurses contacted would not want to reconsider their decision to provide nursing care to terminally ill patients. Conclusion: nursing care of a patient - a senior in the terminal stage of the disease is a very demanding profession, or even a mission. a nurse who has decided to accompany a sick person to the very end must have not only practical skills, but also a high dose of empathy, inner strength and humanity.
