Disputes over the understanding and assessment of anthropocene. Philosophical and memetic reflections

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze disputes focusing on anthropocene. The first dispute refers to its definition. The article presents the problems facing researchers aiming at defining the time frame of anthropocene and I outline ways to solve them. The second dispute concerns the assessment of anthropocene. In this context, I point to various elements influencing this assessment and pay attention to the simplifica- tions that accompany the assessments of the postulated new geological era. The third dispute is connected with contemporary ecological discussions, in which the category of anthropocene often appears. Showing the problematic nature of the involvement of these debates in political and ideological disputes, as well as sketching more effec- tive ways of spreading pro-environmental memes and behaviors.
