Support of People with Intellectual Disability on the Example of Assisted Housing

Summary/Abstract: The concept of supported housing has been described many times, but despite this, there is little research on the extent of support provided by supported housing for people with intellectual disabilities. Therefore, in conducting this research, I sought to answer the question: what is the support provided by assisted housing for people with intellectual disabilities? The research was conducted in one of the Supported Apartments for people with intellectual disabilities in Sosnowiec, Poland. I collected the necessary materials by using the method of direct participant observation and semi-structured direct interview. The research presented here shows the range of support provided by supported housing. Organizing the day, preparing meals, and resolving conflicts are essential skills that should be developed from an early age.
