Summary/Abstract: The ancient world used to believe unequivocally in the possibility of a good life, that is, contemplation blurring all earthly ills, both inevitable and illusory. We, the other moderns, live in almost the opposite evidence that desire will never be satisfied and that it is in vain to attempt at defining happiness this impossibility signals the limits of the ancestral ontological aspiration; then, it comes to us to pay attention both to meaning and truth, to accept to trust our children. Irony is the fabric of our lives.
