On the methods of studies of ceramic assemblages and the principles of local and chronological subdivision of Tripolye BI – Cucuteni A

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the principles of the study of ceramic assemblages, which form the basis for the reconstruction of the local grouping and the relative chronology of the Cucuteni A – Tripolye BI sites. They are based on the completeness and reliability of the data, analysis of the distribution of ceramics in the layer, studies on ceramic technology, typology of pottery that is built on the basis of comparison of the shapes and decorations of vessels, which allows to reveal the pottery manufacturing traditions, peculiar to both individual settlements and their local groups. A critical analysis of the “structure” of culture during the considered period and the methods of its reconstruction proposed by N.B. Burdo [Burdo 2018] reveals that this approach does not correspond to the modern methods of analysis of materials. The construction of “social models” on this basis is a reasonable doubt.
