Summary/Abstract: Baldwin claims that deep economic integration in Europe reduced the effectiveness of unilateral economic policy making and members reacted by embracing deeper international cooperation. Peshkopia and Imami analyze EU membership conditionality at a meso-level, focusing on its sectoral policies, and the institutional reforms in Eastern Europe by taking into account the conditions that the EU sets for each of them. On Symes’s reading, governments may tinker at the edges of the institutional framework in an attempt to improve specific architectural features to facilitate decision-making. Jørgensen examines the role of the European Union in multilateral diplomacy.
