Summary/Abstract: The paper offers an overview of the previous research of syntax of the language of writers of the Slavonic-Serbian era. The initial research of the texts from this period is found in the 1960’s and it marked a humble beginning of studying the syntax in the works of writers who wrote in two literary linguistic idioms – Slavonic-Serbian and Dositeyan. The reason for a frequent neglect of syntax, especially in the monographs dedicated to the language of writers of the pre-standard period, lies in the application of the basic model of analysis, i.e. in the method of the questionnaire that was primarily applied for the analysis of the phonetic and morphological level, while lexis and syntax were marginalized. Only lately have the representatives of the so-called Tolstoy’s school insisted on the special status of syntax and lexis since spoken and written language is essentially different precisely in the syntactic and lexical inventory. The last decade of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century have also brought the application of contemporary theories and methods on the corpus of texts of the Slavonic-Serbian era, where syntactic research occupies an increasingly more important place.
