Summary/Abstract: Most of the Romanian people who emigrated at the end of the XIX-th century and the beginning of the XX-th century to America were peasants from Transylvania, Banat and Bucovina. The number of workers and intellectuals represented a small segment of the emigration phenomenon. The American cities, where they settled and looked for jobs, offered them the image of a complex society which they were not accustomed to.These emigrants brought with them the memory of their native village, with the church in its midst, with the priest as a spiritual and cultural guide, a social model that they tried and sometimes managed to apply in America. They built small churches because their salaries were quite modest. Also, some Romanians did not want to donate money since they were carefully collecting all their earnings to return home. Around the churches began to pulsate the social and cultural life of Romanians.
